Francesca Mallows was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. She studied with Lucien Lautrec at Academie Populaire d’Arts Plastique in Paris, Robert Hodgins at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, and Natalie Alper at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where she was a Recipient of the 5th Year Traveling Scholarship (1982).

Mallows has exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Karen McKerron Gallery, Johannesburg; Gowlett Gallery, Cape Town; and Graphics 1 & 2, Boston, among others. Her work is held in public and private collections in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, France, Switzerland, and the UK.

She now lives and works in the Hudson Valley, New York
